About Me

Greetings,

My name is Luis Teodoro Gutierrez. I am 66 years old, Post-Roman Catholic, Cuban-American, retired after 35 years in non-green jobs, active in sustainability research since the 1970s (PhD dissertation on ecosystem response to commercial use and abuse, Georgia Tech, 1974).

My retirement project is doing some independent research and publishing a free monthly journal on sustainable development. One of the key issues discussed in this journal is the influence of religious institutions on sustainable development.  I am strongly in favor of the ordination of women, because excluding women from roles of religious authority is theologically irrational and sends a message that women do not fully share human nature (the same human nature Christians believe was assumed by Christ) thereby reinforcing "machismo," gender inequities, and gender violence.

At the moment, I am working on an online survey about education for sustainable development.  The goal is to determine how citizens can best be motivated to support (via the democratic process) changes to the current system of economic incentives so as to remove/reduce incentives that lead to short term gains, environmental damage, and violence, and replace them with a new system of economic incentives that lead to short term well-being, nonviolence, and long term sustainable development.

Everyone is cordially invited to participate. This is the link: http://tinyurl.com/lq5hpf

Sincerely,

Luis
